Reviewing the GAME Plan

My goal offacilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity especially in the area of exploring real world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
In order to utilize WebQuests I need to explore other WebQuests to determine how I want to utilize this type of activity in my classroom. I also need to talk to other educators who have created WebQuests. So far I have determined the topic of a Webquest I would like to create, and studied other sites in order to determine what activities I would like to include.

For my goal of participating in my school’s technology committee I need to talk to my principal in order to be placed on this committee. I have not been able to take any steps towards this goal since I found out that we are getting a new principal this year. My principal got a promotion last week.

  1. Kelly,
I have created several webquests in the past. While I always create the questions they have to answer or scenario they need to complete with room for extension, I don't always give them the links they need to find the answers. The students seem to enjoy the Webquest more in my grade level (5th) when it is like a scavenger hunt. However, before I try to create my own Webquest, I look online. There are so many teacher websites or free webquests available online that I find I can frequently use one of them or merely adjust it a bit.

  2. Kelly,
What WebQuest resources have you found so far or are you creating one from scratch? I Googled a few myself and there are lots of different resources out there for real world issues. There are some really neat types with the Weather and Biology, but I do not remember what you teach either so that may not help.
I just went through a new principal change myself within the past year. Make sure you get to know the new administrator as soon as possible. I truly believe that establishing good relationships will help you down the road. It is very difficult getting used to one individual and then changing to another and starting that whole relationship over again. The end result will work out though so hang in there! Good luck continuing with your GAME plan.

  3. While I have never created my own webquest, I have used many pre-made webquests by other teachers. It is difficult however to find exactly what you are looking for. I have created a webquest that is not posted on-line, but done as a direction sheet that gives the students directions that they must follow, and in sense, students pretty much do their own webquests using their own information on what they want to do. This may be an option for you to start your webquest journey in getting more familiar with using them.

  4. Luke, I have googled webquests and I found a great resource on Education World, here is the link http://www.educationworld.com/a_tech/tech/tech011.shtml

I am not sure if I will create one from scratch yet, but overall my goal is to create my own.
Thank you for the advice, this is the first time I have had this situation with new administration. It is very hard, our principal has be there for many years.

    Brianna,
I will look into your suggestion as well.

  5. Kelly,
I am sure your principal (or new principal) will be very willing to support you when it comes to technology. At my school we also have a technology committee and for the upcoming school year, my principal has suggested that the committee starts to meet more often to help improve the schools technology resources and also on ho we can better implement our technology tools across grade levels. Good luck, it sounds like you are on the right track for getting your goals carried out.
